Our company in partnership with The Goat Foundation donated 200 goats to 100 low-income households in Kilifi County today. This is our 5th goat donation across Kenya’s ASALs regions that continue to be affected by inconsistent rainfall patterns. Our goal is to ensure the most vulnerable populations are cushioned from food-insecurity by providing long-term wealth creation strategies.

Beneficiaries of the goat foundation at Mnarani Ward, Kilifi County

Why Kilifi?

With a population of over 1.4 million, the Giriama community which is a large population of the Kilifi County practice Agriculture and Fishing as its main economic activity.

Typically most of them own a few acres of land and depend on rain to grow their crops, making them extremely vulnerable to climate changes, this being a semi arid region. The goat foundation identified this region through its representatives and assisted by the local administration and community leaders within this region, the families benefitting from this cause were identified.

Each beneficiary receives a he-goat and she-goat from the giveback. The she goat provides milk for consumption and sale. Together, they are able to produce a herd of goats for the beneficiaries.

Financially Fit believes that a better future for Kenya and Africa lies in empowering low-income households to improve their cashflow. In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 1; No poverty, we teach financial literacy but recognize the need in equipping self-sufficiency skills for sustainability.

This is a cause capitalism initiative that targets to enable 100,000 Kenyans across the 80% households in the Arid and Semi-Arid regions of Kenya by 2025. We give goats as a wealth creation strategy. Goats thrive in nearly all ecosystems, and they require less space and feed than cattle. They can be owned even by the landless.

Cause capitalism calls for a bottom-up approach in poverty alleviation. That is, for a community to thrive; the most vulnerable groups have to be equipped with self-sufficiency skills first.

We are guided by this Cause Capitalism philosophy of our founder, Steve Down.

“When for profits choose as its partner a nonprofit, not as gimmicks but as true sustainable partners.”

Our Cause Capitalism partner is The Goat Foundation.
