MONEY TALKS; THE ABUNDANCE MINDSET.
Scarcity vs. Abundance and how your abundance mindset is already growing your personal wealth.
You are on a hike with a friend on a trail you frequent. Before setting out on the hike trail, the guide reminded everyone to pack up snacks and enough water. Your friend forgot to carry water. After covering some ground, your friend borrows your water and you generously offer your bottle. Despite feeling your throat parched and staring at 4 kilometers left out of the 10 km trail to trek and not enough water for yourself . So you decide to share the water you carried and trust that you will get more water at the clean stream flowing at the end of the hike trail.
Your knowledge of a clean river where you can refill your water bottle belittles your worry of not having enough water to share with your friend and the bottle running out. Your also have assurance of the stream at the destination.
This is the philosophy of abundance. When we understand how to get resources, we can create and opportunities and share because we see plenty where others see that it’s all not enough. The factor left to actualize is the determination to get to where there’s plenty.
“Whether you think you can, or you think you cannot- You are right” Henry Ford
People with an abundant mindset often believe there are more options, more opportunities, and more resources to go around. They are confident in their abilities and focus on expanding their strengths rather as they work on/cover their weaknesses. Abundant people give freely and unconditionally. They give their time, their effort, and monetary assistance if needed because they see the bigger picture/destination of the journey.
In his book titled Financially Fit for Life, Steve Down, author and CEO of Financially Fit emphasizes the abundance mindset and goodwill that comes with the power of sharing and offering help:
“Giving help is one of the greatest rewards of becoming Financially Fit for Life. Giving and helping others comes from the feeling of abundance. (Selfishness stems from thoughts and feelings of scarcity). When one gives, it has a powerful impact for increased good upon the one giving and the one receiving. The characteristics of kindness, charity, thoughtfulness, appreciation, compassion, and generosity are multiplied.”
Abundance mindset vs Scarcity mindset.
People with a scarcity mindset work from a point of fear . They fear failure. This holds them back from maximizing their strengths. Instead, they prefer to work on their weaknesses and often beat themselves when they realize less can be done when one concentrates on their imperfections.
An abundance mindset enables people to embrace risks, they work from a point of adequacy and believe they are capable of anything presented to them. Instead of concentrating on what they lack, they make the most of their strengths by collaborating with other people who are better at their weaknesses.
Developing an Abundant mindset.
- Guard your thoughts.
Give yourself the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. Your remember progress is better than perfection.
We often harbor self-dismissing thoughts like “There are no jobs!” “ There are better people at what I do!” “ That is only reserved for the rich!” “ I don’t have the skills for that!”
These thoughts feed our inadequacies which result to aborting plans. Our fear of rejection emanates from a scarcity mentality. If we believe that we can find our way to our vision, our inadequacies will no longer be immovable obstacles. They will seem like opportunities to learn, grow and overcome.
You can do it!
2. Develop an attitude of gratitude.
Look at how far you’ve come and choose to be grateful.
Oprah Winfrey opines “ If you look at what you have in life, you'll always have more. If you look at what you don't have in life, you'll never have enough.”
An easy way to track your progress is by having a gratitude jar. Write everything you are grateful for daily then open it once yearly. You will appreciate the small steps you are making.
3. Mind Your Company.
‘Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are?’
Optimistic people tend to cultivate a mindset of abundance with people they spend most of their time with. They relate with wise mentors, sound advisors and honest, supportive friends.
This creates an environment of innovation, learning and mutual improvement
.Attitudes tend to rub off. If you spend more time with people who constantly whine about everything or focus too much on themselves, It will be hard for you to see how things can change and your role not just in your life but also in the lives of others.
Find people with an abundance mindset and things will start shaping up with time.
